Jurassic World Dominion (2022) was a highly anticipated film, the latest instalment of a popular franchise, and for this reason I felt the plot and conclusion were slightly anti-climactic.
The set-up of the movie was interesting, but familiar, as Maisie (Isabella Sermon) was discovered by those she has been hiding from despite efforts from Dinosaur trainer Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) to protect her.
I think the opening scenes were the most memorable, with a handful of action scenes throughout the movie also making an impression. Notably, Claire hiding underwater from a dinosaur that loomed in the background or the stunts following Claire running away from one once targeted.
As nice as it was to see Sam Neill return as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern return as Dr. Ellie Sattler, the nostalgia evoked by their presence definitely outweighed any interest in the new plot that they were involved in.
Despite a strong suspenseful start, the film began to drag and I left the cinema thinking it was unnecessarily long as opposed to not wanting to leave. I think that had a lot to do with the time it took for the two plot lines to converge. In comparison to the other films in the franchise, it was fairly forgettable.
